Loom - MPE Controller

Same here, it has the oooh-factor. Also there has been talk of a chapman stick type feature via the dev SDK.

I think it’ll be spot on for what I need. I’d fancied getting a Haken Continuumini for ages but really can’t justify the cost, but at the pre-order pricing, this one seemed worth a punt, and i have pretty high hopes for the potential given what we’ve seen so far.

Continuum’s cost is absolutely justified.

I just can’t afford it, is all.

Didn’t suggest that it wasn’t worth the cost, simply that I couldn’t justify spending that much…

Getting excited about the upcoming release of Loom. Really hope they don’t notch the playing surface. I mainly was drawn to it cause it seemed smooth and continuous!

The photos in their last newsletter did look to be notched. I imagine it’s like Soundplane; subtle and unobtrusive to the touch, but still a valuable source of haptic feedback.

Not entirely certain but in the Q&A it sounded like they agreed with the current consensus on a smooth, notch-free surface but added purely optical vertical marks as a compromise.

Edit: I can’t seem to find the related conversation, and the images do look like there is a physical grove… I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Personally I don’t mind either, also you won’t know how it feels until you touched one.

the madrona labs soundplane has grooves (vertical and horizontal)
I never had an issue with them, frankly, you hardly noticed they were there.
in that case, I think they were added to give a little more flex to the wood… this was a good thing.

O, I see. Interesting! Thanks for the reply. Maybe I do want them in that case. hm.

Yes, I didn’t realize that they provided haptic feedback. Definitely can see how it would be useful. I just assumed it would be distracting but it’s not necessarily the case.

True. I’ve never used a wood surface before. Guess I’m fine either way but after hearing from you all, I’m kinda leaning in the direction of having grooves. I can see it being useful if you are using it in a more utilitarian mode (vs. expressive)

I strongly hope that they will not add physical grooves which would be contrary to free scalings and other uses like pads they have promized.
If you want grooves you can better buy an Artiphon Chorda
But wait and see (and eventually resell !).

ā€œNo.ā€ wasn’t 20 characters, so I couldn’t post it.

Neither was ā€œHow dare you?ā€

Oh, I’m sorry if I hurt you! The Chorda was just a suggestion on my part that seemed to fit well with what you wanted since it is very close to Loom but has physical gooves… Again sorry :frowning:

All good! Unless you secretly work for Artiphon, you didn’t have a hard in that one.

As per their latest update they have completely ditched the markings. And they arent going to meet the original timetable, replaced with the somewhat vague ā€˜fall’.

And they are also giving us a gift, Anyma V synth which sounds incredibly rich and is MPE as you would expect. I am so happy to have this synth and feel placated!

Seriously though, I’d rather have news of a delay than to think they may have forced the deadline.

I’d wager they were always going to give backers the synth anyway, and they’re just using that to try to distract people about the production delay…

Haven’t heard a peep in awhile.

I mean, the basis of their shipping delay was ā€œwe don’t know how or when we’re going to start production,ā€ and we didn’t hear that until the last possible minute.

ā€œFallā€ doesn’t officially start until the 23rd, and it ends in late December. So…

It may be a while before they announce anything.
