PUSH 3 MPE from Ableton

Playing with Expressive E’s “Soliste” just now, I found the pressure curve to be way too steep on Push 3 (as it had really been designed with Osmose’s keys in mind). Somewhere in the middle, I’m guessing at Osmose’s “axis change”, it dramatically shifts from “too quiet” to “too loud.”

I’m sure this can be addressed through synth parameters, or with Live’s “MPE Control” device, but for whatever reason, the solution I reached for today was to address it as audio. I put a Glue Compressor after it on the track, made the settings aggressively squash dynamics, then pulled back with the wet/dry knob. That worked out pretty well for me, though I suspect the “MPE Control” route would be lighter on CPU.

Anyway, I don’t think you’re going to find one configuration that’s comfortable across every synth. Certainly, the symptom I attacked here shouldn’t be compensated for where it isn’t present. But you can make adjustments like this per-synth (or even per-preset) pretty quick, and group the relevant devices together into an instrument rack, for reuse in your user library.
