203 Systems Mystrix 2

oh, sure, its 100% understandable from a product standpoint to do the 8x8 ‘first’.
its more affordable → more accessible / more units sold.

thats partly why I suggest the ‘modular route’, to try to minimise extra outlay of different products… a bit like how Moi is using the Mystrix 1,
but perhaps with built in firmware support for chaining Mystrix 2 as a single surface

but, sure, even so, once you hit $1000, you start hitting other competitors.
the Embodme Erae is pretty close, has (seemingly) large marketing budget
ok, its a different product BUT similar enough to make musicians think twice.

and, as you say, this is all quite niche…
obviously here, we are ‘into’ this area and are willing to pay premium prices for expressiveness.
its easy to forget, that many are spending $100 on midi controllers, even $500 is a big step up for something thats ‘not even a synth’.

100% these discussion are really just thoughts and ideas,
actual product development is way harder , tougher decisions…

but, hey, if this discussion keeps ‘popping’ your post so people are aware of the Mystrix 2 thats good. it looks like a really cool idea with lots of different uses!

I do want to do something like chained Mystrix. They can build their own mesh network, and I have a demo for them. But I think it’s unwise to spend dev time for multi unit stuffs as that only benefits a very small part of the community. Will revisit this post Mystrix 2 launch.

Also got Mystrix 2 pre-production units running today, and MPE & Sensitivity are running great. I will get some good units out and expect some content within like a month?

Mystrix 2 Pre Production Sample is here so…

Some clip of the MPE on Mystrix 2 Mystrix 2 testing - YouTube Mystrix 2 MPE Testing - YouTube

exactly where one idea is leading me. It does seems like a natural progression to have them communicate together and be a modular single surface.

I used(*) four Sensel Morph side by side. Out of the box these are not really communicating, so when one wants to feed all of them into a single synth instance one has to assign channel ranges so that the four streams can then easily be merged. Or to have a dedicated synth instance per panel. There was a MEC extension that allows to slide across panel boundaries and to act as a single controller to the outside (which was convenient as there was a neoprene surface across all four, but never completely opaque to the player - no measurement in the gap, so e.g. changing the glissando speed in the gap was not working, it had to be interpolated, assumptions had to be made). This wasn’t done on a firmware level (as the firmware for the Morphs wasn’t open source anyways) but a secondary stage, on top.
As the Mystrix (probably?) doesn’t allow continuous slides across cells/keys anways having them as four dedicated controllers is probably not much of a disadvantage?

*: used: I still have that setup, just no space to keep it set up atm., so haven’t played this for about two years now…
