Control voltage problems

Hello all, first time posting here. I recently got a used Erae 2 from perfect circuit. I spent some time getting used to it as a midi controller, then dove into cv. Unfortunately it looks like ports 11 and 12 are totally unresponsive, and using the suggested splitter cable (the one with the red and white female outs) produced no signal on the 13-24 split ports. Ports 1-10 operate as expected. I’ve done the CV calibration, and it doesn’t give any errors. I’ve formatted the SD card, and everything is up to date firmware and erae lab-wise.

I reached out to Embodme hoping there was some kinda fix, still waiting to hear back from them. Although perfect circuit said it will refund me within 30 days I would hate to send it back. Other than missing over half the cv ports this thing is amazing.

Any trouble shooting advice would be much appreciated. I’ve wanted this thing since launch and right now this is bumming me out.

Thanks.

I’m on latest firmware and all appears ok to me.

the fact that 11 and 12 don’t work is concerning, as they work the same as 1-10…

13-24, so these are (as you know), the other side of 1-12.

if these don’t work… I’d double checked your ‘splitter’ cable, best way is with a multimeter (continuity test).

the vast majority of cables are not splitters they are stereo → 2 x stereo.
even, when I specifically ordered stereo to Y mono, I’ve been sent the wrong cable…
so unfortunately, Id say this is most likely the issue…

in my case, I discovered this, as I had a Y cable that worked, so knew it wasn’t an issue on the Erae side… didn’t reduce frustration, but at least I knew the cause was the cables.

Im sure you know what you are doing…but sometimes helpful to know you aren’t missing something…

heres how I test
a) go to a preset with vertical sliders.
b) touch vertical slider
c) press routing button
d) set CV abs y axis to 1
e) enable CV Pressure , set axis to 13

you should now see vertical movement on 1, and pressure on 13.

( I set voltage ranges, thought that should matter, and I leave “transfer” on default, not sure what that does - lol)

one note…though it may be in the manual now?
if using CV, ensure you are using it with usb power,
do not power from a usb host. there is significant voltage drop (so no calibration) when not using a dedicated power source.

I appreciate the response.

This is the splitter cable I am using to test channels 13-24. If you have a link to one you know works, it would be much appreciated. I know they are a small company, but I find it silly that this unit didnt come with at least one or 2 verified working splitter cables, and why embodme doesnt sell them.

I’m not sure how the cv is set up, but my concern is that if 11 ans 12 are unresponsive, then everything above that is dead as well. I don’t have any experience with a multimeter but I’ll give it a go, as erae has been unresponsive.

As for the power, yes I’ve been using the original power brick plugged into the main power port.

cable looks ok…but id still test it just in case.

I’m not sure how the cv is set up,

?
Im not sure which factory preset use CV outputs , and which outputs they go to.
you’ll need to verify either on the Erae itself via the ‘routing menu’ (as above), or using Erae Lab. … there may well not be any presets using 11-12, or 13-24, so could just be a routing issue.

the vast majority of users use midi, so I think thats generally the default routing…rather than CV.
(I dont really remember, as I just setup the CV as and when I need it, have have my own presets)

I really appreciate your help. I fixed it, though I may have uncovered a bug. As you suggested, going back to the factory layouts proved that all ports were working as expected.
So for some reason my custom layouts, which I had been modifying via the onboard layout options and through erae lab, weren’t recognizing input from ports 11-24. I’m very happy to have this working, but it’s frustrating that an unintuitive bug like this messed me up for a few days.

Anyhow, thank for your time and your input on this forum. You appear to be a/the major contributor.
