Equator Softsynth with Expressive E Osmose as MIDI controller

Interested to hear from anyone who has or is using the Roli Equator (and Equator 2) MPE soft synth and the Expressive E Osmose as the MIDI controller.

Hi! Yet have to try it (am mostly using the Osmose with the built in EaganMatrix), but there is no reason to believe that it shouldnā€˜t work. The Osmose can output MPE midi and the Equator can interpret MPE midi.
Most presets are thought from the perspective of the Seaboard though, so they might benefit from some tweaking. Do you already have both? If yes, just try it out

I would expect that presets are heavily optimized for Seaboard use.

Meaning, much broader control over CC74 than pressure, with both controlled independently of each other.

This is not how Osmose behaves.

Iā€™m certain it is possible to adjust settings on each sound to make them more Osmose-friendly.

But Iā€™m also fairly sure that ā€œpossibleā€ was the wrong word in that statement. (I rather suspect ā€œnecessaryā€ is more accurate.)

my experience with Equator with other MPE controllers is, it worksā€¦ but the presets are kind of lacklustre, as they are not ā€˜tunedā€™ to the surface.

Iā€™d expect similar with Osmose, particularly due to the nature of Full Z before Y.
(that said, original Roliā€™s didnā€™t have Y some there might be some good presets from that time?)

however, as a synth engine, its very good and easy to use, so for your own presets it could be fun.

note: yeah, I donā€™t think I played specifically Osmose and Equator, as never really gelled with Equatorā€¦ but its MPE , so use port 1 on osmose and MPE ā€˜presetā€™ on osmose midi settings. and no reason for it not to work out ā€˜okā€™.

If Equator 2 has any support at all for pre-RISE products, thatā€™s a different Roli than Iā€™m familiar with.

its not support, rather re-use the sound design from presets created for the original hardware. it be a good starting point.
I felt with early equator presets just had thrown Y on laterā€¦ compared to something like Haken presets where they were more integral to the sound design.

anywayā€¦ just a thought, as I said, I never really liked Equator much (not sure why)ā€¦ and if I was to use with Osmose Id built my own presets.

if you want to use vst presets with osmose, Id go for Noisey 2 from expressive E - they are quite complimentary to the hardware available (or perhaps the phase plant presets), as they have been designed around the Full Z / Y design.

Noisy 2 is currently half-price at Plugin Boutique. Tempted, but Iā€™ve already used my gadget budget for this month.
