I’m so glad that Osmose firmware v2 is now available for all owners. I am especially excited about the External MIDI config presets, and the availability of the MPE arpeggiator for the external MIDI output. I hope more people play with the arpeggiator and make videos about it, as I think it is an exciting and underexplored side of the Osmose. Especially since you can use it with non-MPE synths too.
The video that they link to in the update documentation also contains a section at the end where they discuss some of the features they plan to add in future, a bunch of which make use of new Haken synth features that are in the pipeline.
If I understood the feature right, I love the ability to have config presets – presets that only do configuration (e.g. pedals, rounding, etc.) without changing the sound.
It’s something on the wishlist for my EM software.
I wholeheartedly agree with that, I can imagine very many useful applications for config presets. For one - a more seamless operation out of CVC (without needing to drill down and apply changes to each preset individually).
Some users seem to be reporting a bug with the released version of the firmware that messes up the pressure-weighted portamento range that is saved with user presets. I have not yet evaluated this bug for myself.
The way that you save presets to the Osmose if you are using the editor has also changed. You now have to use a version of the editor that comes from Expressive E, and to save to the Osmose you have to use the functionality built into the Osmose itself, taking care to duplicate a preset first otherwise you will overwrite an existing preset with the preset details of whatever you have in the editor - not ideal and a source of potential confusion or lost data for some users. I see that a 3rd party video has already been posted about this.
I installed the update. As far as pressure glide is concerned, I’m not encountering the bug others are complaining about because the hardware isn’t sending that to external synths, at all.
Perhaps they’ve disabled it in a point release until things get sorted?
As fare as I can tell the download hasnt changed since official release.
And I was under the impression that the bug people were complaining about was in relation to the range of pressure glide in user presets for the internal synth, nothing to do with the new feature that enables it to be sent to the external MIDI output port.
I dont know why you arent seeing it in your External MIDI output, if enabled specifically in the play section of the Ext MIDI options when in an MPE mode of output, it works fine for me.
There’s a separate menu under External MIDI for configuring pressure glide, as though there’s any circumstance where users would want the internal synth to respond differently to it, in parallel.
(I was thrown by the glitch that others are reporting, which clearly involves the internal synth’s equivalent menu).
Really, these shouldn’t be separate menus, but two access points to bring up the same screen.
