The layout of the Striso is why I bought one. But most devices are not expecting such a layout and cater their UI to piano keys or a 16 pad grid. I found that with samplers using the 16 pad grid, it is difficult to know which of the 16 keys the striso will trigger by just looking at the pads on the striso. The chromatic 12 tet scale is distributed in an unruly way for linearly playing all 12 in order (which for normal playing is not a problem).
If the device lets me remap what midi notes triggers the “pad”, then I can make a decent “diagonal” grid on the striso and predict what will trigger what. But the problem is that not all devices allow for this remap across all functions. I’m using the 1010 Blackbox and while it does allow for remap of the virtual pads, it does not allow for remap of the slicer, sequence triggering, and many more.
It would be very helpful to me to have a section in the config editor, in addition to the tuning section, where you can remap what midi notes are transmitted from each Striso pad. By switching mapping presets from the Striso, I could have a few different mappings that make visual sense with my the UI of my other tools. I’d like for the Striso to be my only midi controller.
