Even if the hardware has serious flaws, it has also some nice sides. If they could open source the software it could have perhaps an interesting second life ?
I got one quite early on and I really liked the form factor and some of the overlays, including how the overlays felt. So I wanted to rave about it. But the flaw where the pressure axis acted more like a see-saw, with increasing pressure on one finger causing decreasing pressure values on the note from another finger, caused me to give up on it completely early on. Especially when all hopes of a fix vanished from my mind when they told me on their original forum (long since deleted) that it was a hardware issue, not something they were going to fix in firmware. I considered this to be a completely unforgivable issue, one that would have caused more of a noise on the internet if this device had been more popular with people who post about MPE instruments on the internet a lot in the first place.
I would still have found some use for it on odd occasions, but in recent years when I dug mine out it seemed to be developing a faul with its usb interface and these days I dont think I can get a computer to recognise it at all.
It is too late to make that decision, so I will update the status of the Joué Play from my list of MPE hardware controllers on January 7th, 2025 to discontinued during the next monthly Zoom meeting.
Hi Joué play users,
I can’t find a download link for the Joué Play editor (for Mac). I have to install it on my new MacBook but have only the installer for Windows. It’s a shame that they went out of business and even don’t provide a download link. It’s even not available in the Mac Appstore anymore. If there are users who read this and can send me the editor, I would be very happy. Thanks.
Could you provide the windows software you have?
in this topic there was a link to wayback machine to get the software - this should work.
try:
https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://downloads.jouemusic.com/editor/windows/stable/*
obviously, whilst this is a special case - for (hopefully obvious reasons), Im a bit reluctant to have links to software on this forum, that are not ‘official’.
anyways, using wayback machine is a great way to find old free software
Understandable, thanks for the link. I had a similar issue with ACPAD too actually… frustrating when this happens.
I managed to grab all of the mac and windows files they have:
(You click on URLs to see a full list)
… should it ever be of use to anyone lmk as I’ll keep it stored in my Dropbox. Probably seek out the reddit for Joué like I did ACPAD.
I will say that I find it unlikely that these installers will include or even be able to download the audios and stuff necessary to rebuild the experience since their file sizes are so small so it’s quite possible that these installers will try to download the files from a server location that no longer exists etc… so I may need to get someone to copy their install folder for me regardless (if they even have permanent offline data of that nature cos for example the Joué Play app for iOS - which I’d like the app for if anyone has it - no longer plays sound correctly apparently)
Sinceriously,
Grayson King
EDITED, off topic.
moderator note: please don’t post links for “self promotion” / contact.
you can put links in your profile e.g for social media, websites etc.
if people want to contact you, they can look there, also they can DM you thru the forum.
you can also post specific music you’ve made or expressive instruments related projects into the Your Music and Projects category.
sorry, we’ve been getting a number of AI bots coming on here posting links to suspicious websites, we really don’t have the time to check individual links for legitimacy etc.
if you need more information, please reach out to moderators/me via dm.
besides, its better to keep on topic, and post links that are relevant.
thanks for your understanding.
Sorry about that. It was purely for future proofing for people to keep access to this software but I didn’t think it through
The only issue with these downloaders is that I doubt they contain all of the sounds used for the software and perhaps even they cannot install properly
I’m gonna test it today
