MIDI 2.0 for Windows is rolling out

MIDI 2.0 for Windows 11 is rolling out. The driver arrives first, but you can’t use it until the feature is enabled, which is happening on a rolling basis. There’s a tool you can download that will tell you if it’s enabled (yet).

Just got mine yesterday - fully enabled.

Transparent multi-client for existing Midi1 devices? yep. It just works. (as far as I can tell so far). Just connect your various software to the device, only you can now run them at the same time. Nothing special to do. It’s actually boring in the best way.

If you want to configure virtual cables and such, you need to download the SDK for the tools.

I tried earlier dev versions and yeah, Windows finally got the MIDI system it should have had this century.

I’ll try it again once the rollout is complete and things settle a bit. Long term my interests are with MIDI 2.0 and the network transport.

Truly, the future is now.
