Hi,
I have done a new video to show the current stage of Erae 2 for the very narrow use of spatial audio control in acousmatic/concrete music. What’s more it is only in French…
But maybe it will still be of interest to some of you, also by the comparison of its sensitivity with the Sensel Morph, the Striso and the Linnstrument.
To summarize it is: a big step has been made on the hardware side compared to version 1, and now we are waiting for the improvements on the software side, namely:
the pressure can start continuously from 0 instead a big gap between 0 and 10/12 (and more progressive on low levels)
the possibility of the continuous sending of the X position rather than the glissando between the notes
Thanks for testing, very interesting! My french is unfortunately too rusty by now to follow everything in detail but I will rewatch later on with translations on
Thanks !
Yes, I will, I just have to do better measurements, but I thought that Embodme will need perhaps a little more time to adjust their software.
They have removed the global sensitivity setting in the EraeLab which is a shame since it could perhaps compensate for the lack of emitted pressure values between 0 and +/- 12.
It really is rather strange the more I think about it that the Erae II has these shortcomings, like the one that you describe with the 0-10 jump. I got my old Roli Lightpad Block M (V2) out yesterday to check how it behaved; and it actually performs very well in this regard, giving me a rather smooth and pretty controllable pressure curve all the way down from 0 to 127 (see the attached picture).
Sidenote: Regarding the Lightpad Block M, on your page it says you measured actuation at about 180 grams, this is not the case with mine. Mine requires about the exact same force as my Linnstrument 128 – which is about 50 grams, using a AA battery sized pressure point. I just wish someone would make a larger version of the Roli Lightpad since I find it too small to actually play with – and Hello Erae/Erae II! … And now just imagine the Erae’s would come with better sensor technology, let’s say like the Sensel Morph! Then the search really would be over.
Anyways, how do you find the sensitivity consistency across the surface of your Erae II? Overall, how satisfied are you?
Yes, values progressions in the BlockM is very good, even at low values. On this point it is as good as Linnstrument and Sensel Morph.
About the sensitivity, I will recheck later since the measures are always very approximative, but what I remember is that it needs nevertheless a lot more effort to start.
