I asked if it came with a base station and they said no. I explained it would be unusable without one.

please include region, and also a tag indication, that you are just posting listing - i.e you are not the seller. just so those interested in it, known its from an ‘unknown’ third party.

I’ve sent them a message, to reinforce yours, telling them in no uncertain terms - when the buyer comes here and says it doesn’t work, that I’d informed seller in advance - its basically false advertising.
note:
this is a US charity (salvation army), so it’s clearly a case of them selling something they have no idea what it is - so its not intentional.
But its highly likely that its going to come back and bite them on the a*, so want them to avoid that.
all that said, if you are in the US, and already have a Eigenharp, this might be a great opportunity to get another, and contribute to a charity at same time.
however, beware… as its does not include a basestation theres no way its been tested , so its a bit of a risk but does have a 30 day return (according to listing)

makes me wonder if they have some kind of automated system doing the posting for them… given the description says its a musical instrument, so they knew at least that much
another slightly dodgy aspect, they posted the original receipt, which would be fine… except they left the original owner’s name and address on unobscured… hopefully ok, given it was 16 years ago

Did Eigenlabs even sell Taus without basestation? If not then unless the basestation got damaged there is a high likelyhood that the one matching to this Tau still exists - and the sellers just couldn’t associate that black box to the instrument. Might be worth to explain them how the missing part is looking like and what to search for.
Im wondering if it came from this post perhaps they donated it to the salvation army, as its clear its going to be difficult to get a basestation? ofc, could be coincidence.
I don’t think you could get a Tau (or Alpha) without a basestation, I think the basestations were sold separately as ‘backups’ or for use in different rigs/studios?
so yeah, Im assuming the original basestation, was either damaged/lost.
the main issue is, as I pointed out on the other thread…
most Tau/Alpha owners only have one basestation, so unlikely they’ll have a spare to sell, and if they did, now that Eigenlabs appears to have ceased trading, they’d be highly unlikely to sell it.
so, that means, the most likely use is to sell to someone who has an eigenharp tau/alpha already.
honestly, if I was in US, Id be tempted to bid for it, as a “backup”
(but there is a risk, as we have no idea when it was last tested)
anyway, as above, I dont really blame the seller, they are a charity, and have no idea what it is, and are just trying to use it to raise money. though its a shame they have not responded to our requests to make the description clearer.
Ach, might be me! Had to remake my account here as I’d lost my old email address, but as a longstanding Pico user I didn’t realise that it was missing the required base station since it did say “and accessories” and never specified the converse, and am locked in with a high bid with a few hours to go… there (likely) a lot of money towards an instrument I won’t be able to either play or sell!

you may be able to reduce your 'highest bid" offer, so hope that someone else outbids you, or at least limits your exposure.
ofc, that won’t help another bidder, although, it’ll help not (auto) drive the price up?!
you may also want to message the seller, and urge them to cancel / re-list the sale. re-iterate its description is misleading (at best) - they may listen to you more as the potential buyer.
on the positive side, they have a 30 day return, but you will be out of pocket on shipping costs.

just going on the listing and the fact BJG got a response, (I did not)

theres actually two bits of mis-selling to insist on a refund.

no basestation = no usb connector!
(b) is useful, as there’s no misinterpretation of this.

sounds like they will it run, then once auction is complete, they’ll advise - and re-list if buyer doesn’t want without basestation.
guess, that works… perhaps its also within limits of whats possible within ebays systems?!
How about this… I already have an eigenharp and basestation and could use a backup if it’s cheap. The seller did say they accept returns and I’d be able to test if it works. I can put in a bid for what I’d pay for it and if yours is higher, we could just go through with the transaction and work it out between us.
Looks like someone else swooped in over your max and saved you! 
If the Tau works and they have a basestation, that’s a good deal.
