Hello, Hallo, Salut, Ciao thread

Thanks António and Ferdinand, I did try customerservices@ and got one initial response from John (so I know he’s there!) but then 3 months of radio silence after that :disappointed:

I’m just about to take my chances with fixing the Tau myself, I just need to get to the footplate. I can’t see how it would need recalibration as long as no key is separated from its emitter. If I do it I’ll definitely report back my findings here!

I am Muıгén Ní Sídach (sounds like: moor-RAYN ni-SHEE-dak)
Though my mother started me on piano as a child, I worked my way through several string instruments before mostly settling on 6-string guitar and bass guitar. both electric and acoustic.
I mostly keep to myself, however as soon as the MIDI 2.0 was formally introduced I began official development work on what I describe as a CyberMusical Ecosystem, meaning a cyberphysical system for music that leverages the plug-n-play configuration and bi-direction active property status of MIDI 2 conforming devices.

The Roland A-88MKII was the first to build a production hardware MIDI 2.0 Compliant Keyboard Controller

I am working hard to make my worker-cooperative, Na Síofгaí CybeгMusıcal the first to introduce an authentic guitar controller (not guitar-like) that communicates interactively with all of the MIDI 2.0 devices and software within the artist’s work environment. This includes other controllers, hardware/software synths, MIDI 2.0 effects pedalboard, preamp, and amp.

Hello everyone!
I was very excited to find this forum and have been lurking for a bit and wanted to say hello. I am another professional software engineer, I work in the game industry, mostly VR these days, and am an eager open source contributor and microcontroller tinkerer.

Two decades ago, I was a decent lead guitarist doing mostly blues and rock improv. I had an injury that forced me to give up the guitar and it has prevented me from playing any instrument that requires a lot of finger force. A typical guitar string might require something in the range of 40-200 N (Newtons) to fret (depending on strings, acoustic/electric, etc). For comparison, an mx cherry red keyboard switch requires a minimum of 0.45 N.

I love the expressiveness of the electric guitar and have not found a modern controller capable of the range of articulations that are possible on the electric guitar. I discovered the Eigenharp recently, but it looks like I’m 10 years too late :frowning:, I would have been eager to try it and see if it was comfortable for me.

I plink around on a Push 2 controller these days making some electronic music, but still have the dream that I’ll discover a modern instrument that I can play that allows me to express myself again in a pain-free way.

Hi Melodic! I recommend you check out LinnStrument! I personally recommend to pair it with the Equator2 software.

I’ve been stalking LinnStrument youtube videos for a few months now. It is definitely the controller that has checked the most boxes for me. I takes a really long time for me to make purchase decisions. I wish it were as easy as hopping down to a local music store to try one out.
Thanks for the software recommendation, this is one side I haven’t invested time into exploring yet and Equator2 is unfamiliar to me, I’ll check it out.

Hi all. I’m Paul. I should have joined two years ago! But never got the invite.
Some (many) of you know me personally. I am a US expat living in the UK. I have a fairly involved studio and an Eigenharp Alpha, Akai EWI4000s, Linnstrument 128, K-Board Pro 4, and a laundry list of sound generation, much of which is capable of MP expression. In the last year I also put together 252HP worth of Eurorack.

I’ve been active on electro-music.com since about 2007, and I’m one of the operators on radiospiral.net (I operate the station and perform online every two weeks there).

Glad to be here finally!

Hello!

My name’s Aaron; I recently acquired a Madrona Labs Soundplane and found my way over here from Technobear’s YouTube channel. I’m interested in unique physical instruments and instrument design, and the biggest thing that pushed me over the edge on getting the Soundplane was the open source nature of it’s software. I’m planning on doing some development work to contribute back to the Soundplane app, and create my own instruments using the soundplane as the primary input.

I’m super excited that this community exists

Welcome to the forum. I noticed one of these on Reverb recently…? Perhaps you nabbed that one. Beautiful instruments.

welcome @hotdogaaron

great to hear from another Soundplane player, a rare breed !

as you have likely noticed, we have a category for each instrument, so feel free to post ideas etc to the Soundplane category

I’m really interested to hear what you have in mind for it.
I’ve done a bit with the Soundplane source code, so if you have any questions feel free to post, and I’ll answer what I can.

I’d really like to focus a bit on the Soundplane this winter, as Ive had some ‘new’ ideas for it (and new approach) … that I really want to explore, focused on turning the soundplane into (as you say) an instrument, rather than controller.
so happy to share ideas in the above category.

that said, it’s summer here in Spain… so I tend to ease off dev/music tech, during these months, and focus more on it during the cooler months… so won’t be much going on till then.
(also I have another project to finish one Im back into the saddle before I start another  )
but of course, happy to chat, in the meantime !

Welcome, Thom!

There is a lot of Eigenharp related discussions around here, and hopefully you will in general feel very much at home!

I am not very accustomed to electronic wind instruments, but given your list maybe you would be interested in this:

A midi harmonica from Lekholm Instruments. Lekholm and Berglund Instruments, sounds a bit like neighbour garage workshops in a Swedish villa neighbourhood!

Perhaps it is even like that!

Salut à tous.tes,

Clément from Paris.
Currently in a romance with my Continuum, but very curious about all expressive controllers/instruments.
Sound designer, composer and live musician for theatre and dance pieces.
These days, I feel like spending more time crafting sounds and their relation to the gesture with the EaganMatrix but also using samples. Love recording too!
Just trying to find how to make a living out of this activity

Really nice to find this forum thanks to Whywhy why!

Greetings,

Happy to have stumbled upon this forum; I tend to gravitate towards vintage gear and DIY expressive instruments. And strive to create within a “whole studio” instrument mindset…Excited to explore and share musical ideas and experiences!

Hello everyone,

I am Frank, from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. I own a LinnStrument (200) applied with multiple DIY hardware modifications, maintain lists of MPE hardware on the Roger Linn Design board on the KVR Audio forum, and wrote educational reference documents for the LinnStrument’s tritone layout. I exclusively use gratis and libre open-source software.

I have a few concurrent projects I am working on:

  • I am translating my piano/keyboard skills to the LinnStrument in order to prepare a substantial live music setup to perform in local venues using the LinnStrument with the upcoming Anyma Omega (Desktop).

  • I have a VPS on OVHcloud with a recently deployed Tor non-exit node (aiming for guard), and will also eventually include privacy front-ends such as Invidious, a PeerTube instance for uploading LinnStrument videos showcasing my dexterity/proficiency, with more to be determined.

Hi! I’m mostly a beginner electronic composer. I’m intrigued by fretless / continuous pitched ability. I currently own a Linnstrument and Touché, and my keys controller has 3 joysticks (Studiologic SL-88 Studio). So far my work has been with the mouse, but I’m slowly experimenting with recording midi performance in the DAW. Other than elementary school tuba, i don’t have a significant performance background, but have taken a year of college theory.

In 2024 i am thinking about getting a ContinuuMini or, maybe, a mid-range e-cello (NS Design NXT5a), but I’m not very consistent with the acoustic cello, so maybe more likely the ContinuuMini. I have some early, non-expressive, work on youtube as The Eclectic Atrium. There are two channels: Topic is just audio through distrokid, mostly loops, though i composed the oud part for “Convergence to Hijaz”. The other are (will be, so far just one) classical style pieces with video.

Hey there polyexpressive folks

I’m Eleonore from French Alps, and expressive synth lover as a lot of people here.
I play (more or less good) various instruments, from piano to guitar, banjo to flute, and some other stuff.
And of course… synths, with a particular affinity to MPE ones
Generally speaking, I’m kind of curious about everything especially when it produces a sound.

Among other stuff, I’m a proud linnstrument 128 owner since 2017, and for now my favorite setup is to pair it with my hydrasynth desktop. Playing in a band with it and it’s just incredibly fun.
I also have some old linnstrument/axoloti setup projects too but i never had the time for it yet, especially as music is not my livelihood (for now?).

I had the chance to get an Expressive E Osmose last week, and I’m having a lot of fun with it since. So many possibilities in this one too, it’s a great piece of expressive instrument and it’s very inspiring.

I’m glad to join this forum, hope I can share and help as much as I can, and wish you a happy new year everyone !

Warmly welcome, Eleonore!

I hope you will find this an inspiring place. I also play the 128 Linnstrument and am right now travelling with it and an EaganMatrix module. This is a such a good size for mobility and range at the same time!

Happy new year to you too!
